ARBURG at Plastec West 2023

At Plastec West in Anaheim/California from 7 to 9 February 2023, ARBURG will be exhibiting an automated production cell in Hall B at Stand 4001. The cell will be producing digitally watermarked closure caps from recycled material. Other key features include the freeformer 300-3X for additively manufacturing complex high-temperature components and ARBURG's diverse portfolio of digital products and services.

Turnkey system processes recyclate

On the trade fair stand, an ALLROUNDER 470 A "Comfort" will be producing closure caps bearing a digital watermark. Digital watermarks are postage stamp-sized codings that are applied directly to the moulded parts via the surface of the cavities and are invisible to the end user. No downstream printing is required. A high-speed camera can read the marking and determine which material category the moulded part belongs to during automatic sorting in the recycling centres. The closure caps will be made of "K Resin ECO KR01" from Ineos Styrolution, a material with a recycled content of 70 per cent. The vertical MULTILIFT SELECT robotic system removes the moulded parts from the mould.

freeformer with high-temperature application

Also on display at the stand will be the freeformer 300-3X for high-temperature applications. The exhibit has a build chamber that can be heated to 200 degrees Celsius and discharge units that can process plastic granules up to a temperature of 450 degrees Celsius. The machine will be manufacturing a ventilation duct for the aerospace industry made from Ultem 9085, a flame-retardant material qualified for applications in this industry.

Digital: arburgXworld, ALS and ARS

All the production cell's peripheral devices at Plastec West are fully integrated into the GESTICA machine controller. Connecting to the ARBURG host computer system (ALS) makes it possible to record and analyse production data in real time, which significantly increases production efficiency and transparency. With the ARBURG Remote Service (ARS), ARBURG experts can gain external access to an injection moulding machine's control system via a protected and encrypted data connection.
Alongside the ALS and ARS demonstrations, the capabilities of the arburgXworld customer portal will also be on show at Anaheim. A demo terminal will clearly illustrate just how many services and business processes can also be handled digitally with ARBURG.
