Fakuma 2024: ALLROUNDER 520 A

At Fakuma 2024, ARBURG (Hall A3, Stand 3101) will be exhibiting an ALLROUNDER 520 A "Ultimate", which will be producing high-quality PP closures for personal care products. A highlight of the trade fair application will be servo-electric capping directly in the mould with the aid of integrated axes from ARBURG's sister company AMKmotion. Smart functions and assistants from the GESTICA control system ensure optimised injection moulding processes, intelligent mould position monitoring, a reduced energy requirement, and flawless part quality.

Electric machine with pilot mould

The exhibit, an ALLROUNDER 520 A "Ultimate" with a clamping force of 1,500 kN, will be processing PP from Borealis. Lightweight flip-top closures for tubes with a moulded part weight of five grams are produced in a cycle time of around nine seconds. The flip tops are automatically closed directly in the mould using in-mould closing (IMC). The part design requires special geometries with two precisely defined pressure positions. Two servo motors from ARBURG's sister company AMKmotion, which are controlled at different times, play a central role in the reproducible capping process. The innovative 2-cavity pilot mould comes from VTW, Austria. The mould is fully integrated into the GESTICA control system, making it much easier for the operator to start up the machine and monitor the process sequences.

"Intelligent" assistance functions provide support

For active support during work at the machine as well as optimised processes, maximum efficiency and flawless part quality, the exhibit is equipped with many functions and assistants that are integrated into the GESTICA control system and together offer optimum process reliability and convenient, fast working:

  • The “aXw Control CycleAssist” function makes sure the control system knows the programmed cycle. Unproductive time segments can be displayed and the sequence optimised by a single click. This results in short cycle times and high productivity.
  • The “aXw control PressurePilot” function enables bionically optimised pressure control from injection to holding pressure. This prevents underfilling and burr formation and reduces the reject rate.
  • Current performance values can be displayed via the "energy display", recorded in the measurement chart and logged. This makes the energy requirement transparent.
  • There are also various controller functions: "stability monitoring" reduces the reject rate, "precision dosing" ensures precise screw control, and intelligent mould position monitoring is possible using a reference curve and tie-bar sensors.
