A reliable technology partner for the future

Phoenix

Phoenix Closures, based in Aurora, Illinois (USA), is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of innovative plastic closures. The family-run company has been producing high-quality packaging solutions since 1890 and now operates from five locations. Its machine fleet encompasses over 70 injection molding machines, including six ALLROUNDERs, and the company has been working with ARBURG since 2019.

In search of a forward-looking technology partner, Phoenix Closures opted for ARBURG. The decisive factors were high process stability, reduced energy requirements, and professional project management. The integration of a stack mold carrier system and a comprehensive factory acceptance test (FAT) also played a key role. Through this collaboration, Phoenix Closures has been able to streamline its production processes and optimally position itself for future requirements.

Increased process stability

aXw Control PressurePilot reliably equalizes filling variations, thus ensuring consistently high part quality.

Time savings

Optimized sequences reduce cycle times by 10 to 20%.

Energy efficiency

The energy requirement has been reduced by 25 to 40%.

Solution

The ALLROUNDER machines used were from the 570 H to 1120 H series, on which multiple molds with different shot weights were operated. The molds have 32 to 64 cavities and enable short cycle times of 10 to 12 seconds. PP is primarily processed for closures with diameters ranging from 28 mm to 100 mm, as well as precision fitments. Thanks to the technology used, Phoenix Closures was able to reduce the energy requirement by approximately 25% while also shortening cycle times by 2 to 3 seconds. This ensures that both production and sustainability goals are effectively achieved. Another key factor in this success was the close support provided by ARBURG’s headquarters in Germany, particularly during the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and the successful integration of the stack mold carrier system—a solution that could not have been implemented in this form with any other machine manufacturer.
