Medical technology: APF for all types of implants
At Formnext Connect, ARBURG will present numerous innovations and practical examples of the APF process. The open system is predestined for medical technology, for processing soft materials, high-temperature plastics and PP as well as for industrial additive manufacturing of parts consisting of several components. Freeformers can also be used to implement highly demanding applications that cannot be realized with any other process. These include resorbable implants made of a bone-like composite Resomer from Evonik and processing of a polymer from the Resomer C family that can be used in soft tissue applications.
Versatile: Soft materials, hard/soft combinations and high-temperature plastics
The freeformer can also additively process very soft materials. This is illustrated by an example of a flexible shoe sole made of the thermoplastic polyester elastomer Hytrel® from Dupont. The practically distortion-free processing of semi-crystalline PP and complex functional components made of original plastics in hard/soft combinations is particularly interesting for users who wish to produce and test functional prototypes made of the exact same material as the mass-produced end product. A freeformer 300-3X is configured for the processing of high-temperature plastics. Its build chamber can be heated up to 200 °C, extending the material spectrum to include materials such as Ultem 9085 or Ultem 1004. For demonstration purposes, individualized sawing templates for knee operations are produced from this material.

arburgXworld: freeformer integrated into the digital ARBURG world
Premiering at Formnext Connect 2020 will be the integration of the freeformer into the arburgXworld digital customer portal. The globally available portal is already being used very successfully by ARBURG injection moulding customers. arburgXworld now also enables the seamless monitoring and documentation of process data for APF parts. The MachineCenter app provides transparent information on all machines and production jobs. The latest machine and slicing software as well as numerous material data sheets are also available for download here. The Shop app can be used to order spare parts around the clock, for example.
