ARBURG at the Hannover Messe 2020
Lightweight Construction and Resource Efficiency
ARBURG will be at the Hannover Messe from 20 to 24 April 2020. The main focus of its exhibit (Hall 23, Stand C48) will be on digitalisation, sustainability and production efficiency in plastics processing. Two groundbreaking processes for injection moulding and additive manufacturing will be on show.
FDC: innovative injection moulding process for lightweight construction
ARBURG will be using its fibre direct compounding process (FDC) for lightweight construction to demonstrate how the long fibre reinforcement of plastic parts can increase resilience and reduce the amount of material used. An integrated materials processing technique like this one also has a positive impact on CO2 balance in production.
At the Hannover Messe, an electric ALLROUNDER 630 A will be producing long glass fibre-reinforced PP platforms for use in the seat adjusters installed in car interiors in a cycle time of about 50 seconds. In this application, the fibre content is 35% and the weight of the moulded part is approximately 250 g. A linear MULTILIFT SELECT Cartesian robot deposits the finished parts on a conveyor belt.

APF: additive manufacturing of fibre-reinforced parts in single-unit batches
A freeformer 300-4X produces a fibre-reinforced gripper “live” using the ARBURG Plastic Freeforming (APF) process. To facilitate this, the new machine has an additional fourth rotary axis and a feed unit for continuous glass or carbon fibres. The fibres are cut to the desired length, placed at specific points on the part carrier and encased in a plastic melt. Thanks to these new developments, the APF process can now also be used to manufacture components with individual and targeted local reinforcement in the areas under stress.

“arburgXworld”: digitalisation and the customer portal
The “arburgXworld” customer portal will be among the exhibits at the ARBURG trade fair stand. The portal has a number of apps and configuration levels that offer comprehensive support for injection moulding – from dimensioning and ordering the new ALLROUNDER 270 S compact, to simulating the control system, monitoring the machine fleet and documenting production processes, right through to ordering spare parts and providing digital services. ARBURG has now brought its entire range of digital products and services, which also includes a number of assistance functions, together in one tool.
