The night light serves as an example of how multifunctional component surfaces can be manufactured using film insert moulding (FIM). The process is perfectly suited to high-quality touch functions in the field of digitalisation; for example, in vehicle interiors, as well as in the electronics industry, white goods and medical technology.

Liquid silicone compensates for curvature: thanks to LSR coupling cushions, a rain/light sensor can be optimally attached to a car windscreen. A multi-component machine moulds a low-viscosity liquid silicone (5 Shore A) onto a PBT frame, in which the sensors are inserted.

A complex production cell takes over production of a urea sensor. The ALLROUNDER 1200 T rotary table machine enables the simultaneous removal and insertion during injection moulding. A Scara robot provides 14 delicate pins, which are overmoulded in the mould.

Thick-walled parts such as car door handles can be produced using fluid injection technology (FIT). In this example, a core made from PA 6 is reinforced and a PA 12 outer skin with a high surface quality, have been produced, at a significantly reduced weight.
Using the injection compression moulding process, thick-walled optical components are produced, e.g. LED lenses from PC for the dipped beam, high beam or daytime running lights in car headlights. Quality problems such as sink marks or broken ejectors can be reliably prevented using this technique.
