Portsmouth-based Harwin is a leading manufacturer of standard and bespoke interconnect components. It has built an enviable reputation for both quality product and customer service.
From its UK headquarters, Harwin has produced electronic components for over 50 years. As an international company, Harwin’s customer base extends across the globe with offices and manufacturing facilities in the UK, Germany, USA, Singapore and Taiwan, serviced by a worldwide distribution network.
Its portfolio includes high reliability connectors, RFI and PCB hardware and an extensive array of industry standard interconnection products supported a significant research and development facility.
As part of its strategic objective of continuous improvement, Harwin has recently purchased an ARBURG 275 V machine complete with rotary table, dedicated to insert moulding.
Paul McGuinness, Operations Director, Harwin, commented: “We were previously using a highly reliable, but modified, ARBURG 220 ALLROUNDER, We needed to update our process control capability, as the moulding process is very dependant on repeatability in terms of shot weight and injection pressures.
“From the technical angle, for complex parts, we were experiencing a loading time of between 8 and 10 minutes on a single station. By the time the machine was loaded, we were experiencing a degree of degradation in the barrel, resulting in poor shots and material wastage, through having to purge the system after each cycle.
