08/06/2009 - In the context of the International Rubber Conference (IRC) trade fair to be held from 29 June to 2 July 2009 in Nuremberg, ARBURG will demonstrate its competence in the field of multi-component injection moulding at stand no. 207 in Hall 12. An automation solution built around an energy-efficient electric ALLROUNDER 470 A with two horizontally-mounted injection units in an L configuration and a vertical MULTILIFT V robotic system will be presented. “For ARBURG as a manufacturer of premium injection moulding machines, the IRC offers the ideal platform for entering into direct contact with rubber producers. With our two-component ALLROUNDER 470 A, we will be presenting a machine that is able to process elastomer and thermoplastic with a high degree of automation,” explains Eberhard Lutz, ARBURG Area Sales Manager Germany in the run-up to the IRC.
Perfect hard-soft combination
In order to manufacture the moulded parts precisely and energy-efficiently, the selected combination comprises an electric ALLROUNDER 470 A with a clamping force of 1,000 kN, equipped for elastomer processing and with two injection units (size 400 and 170), in conjunction with a vertical MULTILIFT V robotic system. The larger of the two units operates conventionally, injecting horizontally through the fixed platen, while the smaller one, in an L position, injects centrally into the parting line from the rear of the machine. The size 400 injection unit is responsible for processing the thermoplastic and the size 170 unit, featuring elastomer equipment, for the final injection of the soft component. A coolant pipe with three integrated seals will be produced from elastomer. The MULTILIFT V used for turning the pre-moulded parts in the mould and for removing and setting down the finished parts on a conveyor belt is positioned above the machine and enters the mould vertically.
Trend towards automation solutions
Eberhard Lutz points out the significance of the exhibit for the rubber market: “With the application on show at the trade fair, ARBURG will highlight its competency in the field of elastomer processing, multi-component injection moulding and automation. Automation solutions with integrated production steps for the cost-efficient production of complex moulded parts, have become a permanent feature in the field of injection moulding. In particular for the German market, the demand for energy-optimised and precise machine technology is growing. These requirements are particularly well satisfied by the electric ALLROUNDERs, as their modular design allows them be equipped to suit individual applications such as multi-component or elastomer injection moulding.”
