Traditionally innovative
Naturally, an awareness of tradition is valued highly in a family-run enterprise, it also represents an important aspect of the ARBURG philosophy. The values and technological milestones stemming from the company's history continue to have their effect to this day and form an important foundation for further development. This will remain the case in future.
1923 to 1950
1923
Surgical mechanic, Arthur Hehl, establishes a company in Lossburg for producing precision instruments for medical applications.
1943
The definitive name for the company, ARBURG, goes back to one of Karl Hehl's ideas. In 1943, he was asked to come up with a name for the company when he was in Normandy. That name is still used today.
1948
Initial entrepreneurial success in the post-war period with the production of urgently needed consumer goods such as wire baskets, locks, clamp rings for babies bottles and hairclips.
1950
Production switched to flash units for the developing amateur photography sector.
1954
Owing to insulation problems at the connection between the flash units and cameras, Karl Hehl designed a machine for encapsulating the contacts with plastic.
1956
Start of the series production of injection moulding machines with ten employees owing to the large market demand. Industrial property rights obtained for swivelling injection unit and parting line mechanism.
1960
Sale of the 1,000th injection moulding machine, construction of the first fully pneumatic injection moulding machine, the C4/b.
1961
Launch of the "ALLROUNDER principle" for achieving up to ten different working positions on a machine by swinging out the clamping unit and repositioning the injection unit.
1962
Thanks to ARBURG's technological edge in the sector, the first jointly-developed automated two-colour mould is presented.
1963
Development and production of the first two-colour machine.
1968
Start of building extension work under the direction of Eugen Hehl. Launch of the first hydraulic unscrewing unit on an ALLROUNDER 200 S. Implementation of the modular system for ALLROUNDERs through the use of the respective smaller injection unit on the next largest machine.
1969
500th machine sold to a customer in Japan.
1970
Second extension phase begins at the plant. The export share is of 47 per cent, domestic sales account for 53 per cent. The patent for two-colour injection moulding is made available to ARBURG customers free of charge.
1970 to 1990
1972
ALLROUNDER 260 with mould for injection blow-moulding has its world premiere. The first electronic control system, POLYTRONICA, injection process control used for the first time on the ALLROUNDERs. Construction of a central production control system.
1973
50-year company anniversary. Building phase adds 24,000 square meters of useable floorspace to the company's production area. More than 10,000 injection moulding machines sold, more than 700 patents and registered designs filed.
1975
ARBURG is the first manufacturer world-wide with microprocessor control systems for the ALLROUNDERs.
1976
More than 500 employees. Completion of the multi-purpose administration building.
1977
Interval and sandwich processes on the ALLROUNDER 221, 5,000th training course participant.
1979
ARBURG is nominated as an “IBM pilot company”.
1981
The 25,000th ALLROUNDER leaves the production site. First LSR processing on ALLROUNDERs.
1982
First machine with graphical user interface.
1984
German president awards certificate to honour excellent vocational training scheme.
1985
Opening of the first subsidiary outside Germany, in Paris. Completion of the ARBURG I building phase under the direction of Eugen Hehl: 100,000 square meters of floorspace are available.
1986
Modular automation systems. The ALLROUNDER 370 CMD is the first machine with installation and removal of the plasticising cylinder.
1987
CIM introduced to process customer orders more quickly.
1988
More than 1,000 employees.
1989
International debut of the VARIO principle with freely displaceable injection unit.
1991
Launch of the ALLROUNDER T rotary table machine with horizontal working area and vertical injection unit.
1992
More than 1,500 employees around the world.
1993
With the SELOGICA machine control system, a new control generation was presented which is used across the board in all the ALLROUNDERs.
1995
Launch of the ALLROUNDER S.
